Professional Background

Vanessa graduated from the University of Papua New Guinea with Second Class Division 2 Honors in 2017 and completed her post-graduate legal training in 2017. Vanessa commenced employment with Leahy Lewin Lowing Sullivan Lawyers in March 2017. Vanessa is in her ninth year of practice as a commercial/litigation lawyer.

Vanessa primarily practices civil and commercial litigation.

Vanessa advises clients and regularly appears as counsel in the District, National and Supreme Courts of PNG in the following areas:

  • Contempt proceedings
  • Claims against the Government of PNG and State-Owned Entities
  • Judicial Review proceedings
  • Appeals and reviews at the Supreme Court.

Vanessa’s notable highlights include:

  • Assisted in PNG Air Limited’s landmark airline restructure, being PNG’s first creditors’ scheme of arrangement under Part XVI of the Companies Act 1997.
  • Acting for PNG Power Limited in defending significant debt claims.
  • Assisted as PNG counsel for a local agriculture company in a K6 million debt recovery claim commenced in Malaysia
